8oz of raw, coated CVM fleece! This fleece is from a coated flock in Wisconsin, but has some areas that are "tippy." This means that some of the tips aren't structurally sound and should be either cut or broken off from the rest of the lock. The price reflects the defect in the fleece, but it's truly gorgeous if you're willing to put in the work!
CVM is an endangered breed worth spinning. Its fleece is soft enough to be worn next to the skin and is exceptionally bouncy. This fleece in particular is a grey/brown color.
Softness rating: Soft Staple length: 5" Spinning skill level: Beginner- I find CVM to be easy to spin, and is one of my favorite breeds. I find it prefers to be spun fine, but will bloom once washed to double its size.
To wash a raw fleece with medium amounts of grease I use Unicorn Power Scour per directions on the bottle, except with water that is 130F. I do 2, 20min washes with power scour, then do 1-2 washes with slightly cooler water and no soap until water is close to clear. To get my water to 130F, I heat it on the stove - time consuming, but worth it!
