89% Family Farmed Rambouillet Wool 10% Bombyx Silk 1% Angelina
The Rambouillet flock used to create these batts is sourced from Nelson, WI and is next to the skin soft. I visited the farm on shearing day to pick out the softest, cleanest fleeces that I skirted before sending to a local mill to ensure no harsh chemicals were used that alter the structure of the wool. Because of this breed’s crimp structure and because only soap was used to wash the wool (not an acid bath) there is some VM in this wool that will fall out during spinning.
Our Bombyx Silk is A1 grade and carefully hand-dyed to ensure the silk does not become damaged or lose its luster throughout the process. With 10% silk in each batt, it adds vibrant bursts of color into any fiber art project! I've found these batts prefer to be spun into a chunky or art yarn with a medium amount of texture.
Although we generally only use natural fibers, Angelina was a must to recreate the shimmer of colors on the Fiery Searcher Beetle. Gold is such a hard color to dye, but the angelina captures it perfectly.
