Punis are my favorite way to spin cotton! This preparation is perfect for spinning woolen, fluffy yarn and is easier to spin than cotton sliver. The cotton is GOTS certified, non-GMO, and fair-trade imported from Peru. It is also combed, meaning all the short fibers have been removed to create an end product with less neps. I have hand-blended and hand-dyed all fibers in small batches! Although I have done my best to rinse out all dye, some colors may bleed (especially the darker colors) when setting the ply.
Milkweed floss is a great addition to the cotton because it adds warmth and sheen that other plant fibers have difficulty doing. The milkweed floss is collected from local conservation groups, cleaned, and the seeds are then returned to each group for prairie restorations. Working with conservation organizations is an important part of Buchanan Fiber Co. as we are providing volunteer hours that might not be fulfilled otherwise.
Nylon has been added for strength and is imported from France.
About this colorway - Panther Chameleon Panther Chameleon was inspired by the bold, in-your-face colors that this species exhibits.
15% of proceeds from this listing will be donated to Las Gralarias Foundation which raises funds for Reserva Las Gralarias in Mindo, Ecuador. The goal of the reserve is to protect land at varying altitudes of cloud forest habitat that would otherwise be used for agricultural purposes. I was fortunate enough to intern at the reserve for a month in 2011 and am confident that funds will be put towards much needed conservation efforts. The reserve has an abundance of amphibians, which is why all the colorways with 15% of proceeds going to Las Gralarias are reptile and amphibian inspired. Visit reservalasgralarias.com to learn more!
We have made our best attempt to color correct the product photos to accurately represent the colors.
